Swim Club
First Strokes Swimming Club is a competitive organisation which aims at training young swimmers, of all abilities, to obtain a high standard of competitive achievement and at the same time enjoy themselves.
Throughout the year the club competes at local galas around Essex, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
The club is run by an elected committee who are responsible for making sure the club operates within ASA rules, liaising with other clubs to attend galas, promoting the sale of club equipment and ensuring the club operates in a financially responsible manner.
All training sessions, timetables and schedules are the responsibility of the coaches; however the coaching team rely on the support of parents for assisting with such things as administration and coordination of gala entries.
All potential new members all be asked some of the following questions: How old are you (Must be 8 years or older) ? How good are you ? Do you want to achieve a reasonable standard?
Ability in general is not a deciding factor for joining our club. in most cases the training structure will suit all abilities and the club works very closely with First Strokes Swim Schools.
All potential new members are initially invited for a trial swim for the coaches to assess ability and also for the swimmer to see if a club environment is for them.
All club swimmers must pay an annual registration fee to the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) which enables swimmers to compete at Galas and also covers the costs of insurance. All Club and ASA fees can be found on the Timetable/Fees page of this site.
